February 19 – An Ocean of Outcomes

How To Assess What is Actually Happening Aboard Our Vessels and in Our Programs

A WORKSHOP LED BY CASEY BLUM AND IAN RIDGEWAY

47th Annual Tall Ships America Conference
St. Pete Beach, Florida
February 19th – 20th, 2020

We’ve all heard it before, “sailing will increase your confidence and self-esteem” and “tall ships are a great way to build character.” How do we actually know that these statements are true? How can we measure what we think is happening in our programs and translate that information into something more reliable and meaningful. In this interactive session we will discuss these questions while also exploring:

  • What are outcome measures and how to choose the right ones for your organization

  • What are the benefits for utilizing outcomes measures and what are the ramifications for not

  • As a field, how are we comparing to similar industries (outdoor education, gap-year, and wilderness therapy)

BY PLANE

Cape Air offers daily, year-round flights from Boston, and additional seasonal service from New Bedford, Hyannis and Nantucket in Massachusetts, New York’s ZYP and Westchester, New York
Private Air Charters are another year-round option.
JetBlue provides seasonal flights direct from Boston’s Logan Airport and New York’s JFK Airport to Martha’s Vineyard.
Delta provides seasonal flight service direct from New York’s LaGuardia airport to Martha’s Vineyard select days of the week between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
American Airlines Provides seasonal service from Washington, DC.

LODGING ON MARTHA’S VINEYARD

There are many rentals on Martha’s Vineyard though demand is high and things book early. Our recommendation is to search Airbnb or Vrbo. If you are having trouble finding accommodations, we may be able to find one of our supporters to host you. Please email FUEL’s executive director Ian Ridgeway or call him (774)563-0731 if you need help.
